- 2 years of Montessori preschool
- 4 years of 3rd grade
- 4 years of 5th grade
- 2 years as an 8th grade science teacher with
two classes of 6th graders teaching them study
skills, time management and goal setting. - 1 year as a 4th and 5th grade Title One Math
Teacher. - 1 year as a 1st grade Math, Science, Social
Studies teacher. - Currently teaches 6th grade math at Spillane
Middle School in Cy-Fair ISD. - He has taught all subjects in both self-
contained and block teaching schedules.
since he truly enjoys teaching them all. He can say
that his favorite age level to teach is 5th and 6th
grades. He says they (5th graders) are still young
enough to love their teachers, but they are old
enough to begin to question the world around them
and explore their individuality.
Jim lives in Katy, Texas with his wife Mary, three
children, three cats and a snake named Tiger. He
and his wife run a year-round swim team on the
side, Mayde Creek Aquatic Club, and they both
coach summer league swim teams during the
summer months. Jim has been a swim coach for
many years and coached little league football before
he and his wife had 3 kids.
Jim was in a band called The Duckhills back in the
late eighties and early nineties when he made his
living (relatively successfully) as a musician in
Austin, Texas. Once he became a teacher, it did not
take long for his guitar to show up in class. He
currently plays bass for his church band and feels
blessed to have the opportunity to do so.
Jim enjoys spending time with his family, reading,
playing guitar and watching an occasional football
game. Teaching, being a mentor, and working with
young people has been an integral part of Jim's life
for the past 14 years, and Tangy Tunes is another
avenue for this passion to continue.
